Overview

Balefras. The Creator of The Balefire Bomb. He always seemed to wear such a sullen expression, even before he had heard of Wyrmwood and taken inspiration. A quiet thing was he, a quiet and lonely thing. Balefras was born in Salzkin, Ring Sa-ka. He spent his earliest years in horticulture. Perfecting many an artificial specimen. For he by now had heard of The Day Of Wyrmwood and took great pleasure in designing flora to mimic the flame of balefire. Perhaps it was fate that his name happened to be Balefras. Like this he produced many a designer line of mourning flowers and ritualistic flora. Blending theology with science. A brilliant mind he became and as he moved into his middle years, the call of balefire was just too much. He was plagued by dreams and visions of the fire, of wyrmwood. He dreamed of vast oceans set ablaze, of craterfire, of the shattering of the moons.
As these dreams became all too much. As he grew distracted. So did an invitation from Vicralus meet him. Balefras had been invited to study in the Royal Suns District and University. To him; this was a happy moment. To the demigods that invited this bright mind, it was desperation. Within Royal Suns did he take to nuclear research with a frenzy unlike any other. Fully devoting his life to researching balefire and recreating it. The royal descendants of Onyx helped him, guiding him through his research and together with Balefras at the helm did they pervert the atom. Did they recreate balefire. It was upon this milestone that Balefras was told the situation in Arkhan was getting out of control. That trouble that seeped beyond its borders, that war was coming to the desert. As well as every other corner of the land. And so he took initiative and began to craft a bomb.

This weighed heavy upon poor Balefras, this was a shot to see true balefire reign. But it was also a weapon that would kill many. Yet he persisted, enduring these visions and dreams of Wyrmwood. Building, testing, theorizing even as The Black Crusade broke through Arkhans borders and marched forth. And then the day he dreaded came. Shivuhound marched upon Casaderea. They sought to take the bastion city of Salzkin. If they took that city- it was over. Casaderea would fall. They hoped the army could push back the imperialists but they could not. Even the demigods were felled en masse. Onyx became too distraught to fight seeing how many of her children had fallen. And so came that fateful day, the day to test the bomb. Balefras creation was spirited away to Salzkin, and as the Shivuhound broke through its walls. As they overran her citizens. Did Balefras’s closest friend and would be mate detonate the bomb. Torturing and killing billions both innocent and guilty. Stopping the Black Crusade upon Casaderea at great cost.
After this on order from Onyx and Ardent, on order from Alabraxia. Did a dazed and shell shocked Balefras help build an arsenal of balefire bombs. Yet as they were to ship out to Alabraxia did one go missing, alongside Balefras. He had stolen one of his creations and was heading towards the decimated Salzkin. Getting as far as the cusp of the newly formed City of The Silent. Before detonating the small bomb and killing himself the same way he had killed many.

Balefras legacy does live on. It's one of tragedy, one of necessity, one of fate. That last arsenal he worked on was all detonated upon Blackhold. He helped to end The Black Crusade even if he couldn’t bear to live through it. Three of his original bombs were kept as tokens of memory. Some daring adventurers upon their pilgrimage may seek out Balefras’s petrified body. Enduring the radiation to see just a glimpse of the Wyrmwoods Chosen.
