Ölhack

Overview

This small critter hangs around water. Lakes, rivers, estuaries, and the like are their home in the tundra of Arkhan. They live in groups of 15-30 on average and will flee if approached. The rather unique shape of their beak aids in the crushing of firm fruit. Crushing what they cannot chew due to a lack of specialized teeth. The fangs that they do have aid in catching small fish and bugs. Their beak forms a crest over their head. Giving the animal some protection from dangers that lurk in the water they feed from. As well as allowing the animal to butt heads in disputes and fights.

Temperment

Easily frightened the Ölhack will flee if approached. But fight if it is cornered. Often employing a strategy to make itself appear more violent, more feral, than it actually is. Trying to look like too much work for any predator or harassing animal. Their sharp hooves can cause gnarly wounds. They can turn violent at any point.

Life Cycle

Ölhack are polygamous and will have clutches of 6-7. Out of these groups half typically make it to adulthood. The pups will stick close to a parent. Refusing to stray far from the group given how easily the young can drown. Swept away in flash floods they will not make it, only the safety of the group will ensure their survival. Juveniles however can manage by themselves and it is at that point in their maturation the clutch will start to disperse. Finding new groups in which to live, mate, and die.
