Malichi'urah

Overview

The Malichi'urah is a medium sized animal. Pale with only a head and tail dressing of navy feathers this aerial beast spends its time perched upon a spire. Inhabiting the Uràhyta Sub-Region and roaming wide and far, Malichi'urah are common things. Equipped with a loud piercing scream and large exposed canines Malichi'urah confuse their prey then kill it. Grabbing small animals in its main jaws, before the secondary set inside its mouth latch on. Their tongue a stinger like appendage capable of injecting an devastating neural toxin. The loudness of their hunt often attracts other animals, so they stick to hunting smaller things that can be carried away. The whiskers that line their head and neck there to detect any passing wyrms under the sand.
Malichi'urah have a hollow keel that extends from their chest, they often stuff their prey through the hole. A sort of pocket, since flying with an animal clutched in its talons can easily unbalance the light beast. If a prey item is dropped, the spent venom in the foods system can act as a deadly pathogen. Spreading Urath Fever. Their venom once expelled can only last a few hours before spoiling. This keeps the Malichi'urah’s prey for the most part safe once they can get it back to their perch. If the corpse is fresh enough, it can be quickly scarfed down and the thief the sufferer of a minor stomach ach and body chills. The fact Malichi'urah can spread a disease unique to themselves adds another layer of appeal to The Mothers followers, solidifying their status as a holy animal.

Temperment

Malichi'urah are indifferent to the presence of Dragomii. Knowing that their long polearms can and will kill them if they dare make an aggressive move towards the Dragomii. This level of intelligence has led them to be somewhat of a nuisance, as they may herd other animals towards travelers. In the hopes they will kill their prey for them. Worshippers of The Mother of Ill often keep Malichi'urah if they live in Casaderea. Given the animals head so very closely resembles The Mother, to an uncanny degree even. And how they happy sit upon pillar like spires, resembling The Pillar of Divinity only aids on their likeness. They are often seen upon spires adorning temples and pillars made to The Mother. They are considered a holy animal.

Life Cycle

Malichi'urah mate for life, yet if a mate falls. They choose not to suffer alone, often finding other widowed Malichi'urah. Joining in a union of sorrow. Mourning beasts have been displayed to have increased feather growth, and a darker skin complexion. The beasts will endure a live birth, they often have litters of 7 to 30. Often, three to six survive into maturing. The parents are on a strict timer when it comes to feeding their young, they cannot risk feeding the young prey with spoiled venom. While mature individuals do not feel any ill effects, the young do. This race against the clock is what consumes the parents lives for the first two years. After that period, the young should be strong enough to shake off the spoiled venom. And soon altogether ignore it. Young Malichi'urah are completely covered in downy fluff that is white. They loose it as an effect of the venom injected prey they feed on. It is as well what keeps the mature individuals mostly featherless.
