Okulhashi

Overview

The Okulhashi, a mesmerizing beast. Through the flaking metal upon its body. the fur clotted by the caesium that makes up its environment. To its graceful dance upon such a volatile mire. Okulhashi inhabit one of Sertha’s harshest environments, the Caesium Mire. Thick dark green scaly hide and an underbelly laden thick with fur protect the animal from the inevitable implosions that plague the mire. Their thin legs pierce the liquid metal laying uptop the specialized algae, yet are careful to not pierce the blanket unnecessarily. Their head specialized for extracting prey from the air. As well as dredging carrion from the mire itself. Okulhashi tend to stick together in groups ranging from 6-15 individuals. These herds seem to have their own crude language formed of chittering and trilling.
With no eyes to see, and no ears to hear. How the Okulhashi dances through life is unknown. They manage quite well and react to visible stimuli and feel soundwaves. It is hypothesized that due to the low prey density in their domain, and their relatively lax hunting patterns besides killing for enrichment- that their green color comes from chloroplasts in their thick hides. Perceiving color and movement from all around them- one is going to be incapable of sneaking up on a Okulhashi. It is the best theory available- the Skroll have outlawed any hunting and or dissections of the beast in order to retain the deeply intimate rapport they have curated. Therefor the theory of fauna utilized photosynthesis is seen as fact.

Temperment

Okulhashi are proud beasts. And are outwardly hostile to any non Skroll. They avoid animal to animal combat, but will occasionally fight to take down larger foreign prey should it stumble into the mire and live. But if any dragomii do not bear the mask of the Skroll. They are seen as easy stumbling prey with blood they can ignite. Causing the poor individual under weight of caesium and lithium, burn up from the inside. Allowing the pack to feast upon a delicacy. Its unsure just when the Skroll forged this bond. Long enough to have forged the image of the mask as a ‘friend’ in the animals mind. Memory and connection passed down through the generations.
The pointed and painted mask acts as a calming method. It's unclear if one must as well bear the signature dreadlocks of the Skroll- some apprentices who have not completed the needed rites are allowed passage through the mire. And others are slain. While a Skroll is present- the temperament of the Okulhashi is distant and obedient, but not bound in servilism. Still ever proud, even as they bend the knee and carry the Gardeners of Malia. Fight alongside them and coexist as partners.
In the absence of Skroll or wanders. The animal is relatively calm. Slow moving and graceful yet fast when they want to be. Playing dangerous games by igniting the volatile mire they dance upon. Laughing and screaming as they attempt to outrun the growing chaos.

Life Cycle

The young are born live, often in pairs of twins. Light enough to not worry about causing reactions, but unfortunately light enough to not be able to withstand the explosions like their adult and juvenile companions. They are isolated from the main group, made to follow a ways behind incase of rapture. Its theorized this is partly how the Skroll built their rapport with the animal. Interacting with the isolated fawns until they are sturdy enough to survive a blast. The fawns themselves refrain from grouping up however. Just incase one of them makes one fatal misstep and annihilates the entire group. This method of spread out isolation yields the best results.
While the fawns start out in groups of two, because they are isolated from the adult group. Many get lost and find each other in turn. These roaming lost herds will eventually grow up together and form their own herd. Related Okulhashi will grow to hate each other in these lost herds eventually. Often fighting each other in adolescence in an attempt to drive one of themselves off. Likewise- the juveniles are very temperamental and will set off the mire constantly. Tantrums and the like are the wars they wage. This chaotic anarchy in the youth comes from them realizing they can withstand the explosions.
This chaotic crazed energy the juveniles show grates on the adults if the young remain in their original herd. Unnecessary implosions interrupt hunts, courtship, rest, and daily life. Disorganizing the herd and rendering them more susceptible to a bold predator who has the gall to try. Afterall- they aren’t the sole predators of the mires. Just because they prefer foreign prey doesn’t mean everything else does. As they grow to adults their temperment calms. If siblings have not driven eachother off they will learn to tolerate each other. Herd functionality will optimize.
