Overview
The Gorgon mainly hunts Rhettic Roctha. Capable of catching groups of them off guard it can easily grow fat on the sheer reserves of the Roctha. Leading to periods of lounging and hunting. Lounging is when the well fed Gorgon lays around or explores Gelgaten. Often tailing herds of Verlam Walkerwyrm for little reasons beyond curiosity. For they do not commit “crimes” against the Verlam’s injured, distracted, and young. Lounging Gorgons will only turn violent against the Verlam if attacked foolishly. Their teeth capable of piercing the thick hide of the Verlam they can in fact treat offending Walkerwyrms as chew toys. They will rarely if ever actually kill and eat any of the Walkerwyrms given their foul taste. Instead, hunting Gorgon go after primarily Rhettic Roctha and will occasionally hunt Bloodbelly Ghorn. They do not seem to go after weary Sable’sa or Dragomii. Instead sticking to their own diets rather than supplementing them. Though tales of Kineaters are shared.
Temperment
Calm and cautious, the Gorgon prefers to explore, hunt, and lounge alone. This does not mean they are antisocial but rather solitary. That is not to say they wont entertain each other, wont tolerate each other. This and their nature to never attack unless attacked, even if it means passing up a meal of dragomii. This has made them alluring as companions. Gelgaten and its stanza references this, “Red of water, comes Gelgaten’s daughter.”. The daughter being the Gorgon. “Tread through the red, come absent of bed. Let them dance, let them flock, let them come.” Tread tirelessly to track the Gorgon, come dancing to find her. Flock in numbers as both do the animals but this time in search of the Gorgon, let them come to find her. Make a companion and loyal hound out of her.
Life Cycle
Young Gorgons after birth lay atop their chosen parent. For after two come together they duel before mating. And afterwards the young pick who to go with. The young gorglings are lethargic and useless for the first year of their lives. Before having a snap to attention a snap to reality where they can start learning. The gorglings will be taught first how to swim and may be tested by being thrown into more rocky water. Then comes the hunting, practice comes with Rhettic. This is the time where the Gelgeyr may strike. Taking down the gorglings for that little extra bit of protein. Should they last their early years they will depart upon reaching adolescence. Striking out on their own where they either fail to hunt and starve, or become wildly successful.
